Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale

And interesting turn of events, for a rather non-interesting beer.

My parents-in-law took a cruise from New York to Quebec City, with stops in Nova Scotia, where they ran into an onslaught of advertising for the Alexander Keith brands. And while they didn't bring back any beer, they were kind enough to pick me up some gifts from the area.

A couple days later, I'm digging through the back of the local liquor store cooler, and run across a single bottle of Alexander Keith's IPA. For the price, I figured what the hell.

"What the hell?", indeed.

First beer I've ever had to do a double-take, to make sure the label didn't have quotation marks around "India Pale Ale" -- that is to say, to label the beer as a facetious, tongue-in-cheek, half-hearted attempt at an IPA.

Not nearly dark enough, nor bitter enough, nor malty enough..., to even call itself a Pale Ale, let alone an IPA. In fact, I'm not 100% convinced that this is an Ale at all, really.

A musty, boring, and thoroughly unsatisfying pseudo-Lager, my taste buds tell me. I finished it, if only to get the last laugh out of this forgetable and impotent little beer....
