Beamish Irish Stout

This has been -- and will always be -- my favorite of the Big Three, in terms of authentic Irish Stouts go.

The bad news? It's mostly extinct from the U.S. market. Guinness basically ran them out of town. And Murphy's was never a player to begin with, it seems to me.

So how did I come across this four-pack of 440mL nitro-cans? $5 at the local Big Lots, that's how. Now, Big Lots normally has some of the oddest, oldest, and/or nastiest beery shite from El Salvador and Guatamala. But when I saw stacks of Beamish four-packs, $5 each, I figured "what the heck".

It's a credit to this beer's quality that an old, probably abused, close-out four-pack of nitro-cans still hits my sweet spot.

Pleasant and filling in the mouthfeel. But not heavy in the least. Rather, the 4.3%ABV only highlights this beer's easy-peasy, no-fuss, no-muss sessionability.But it's not thin and soulless, like a much more famous Irish stout. It's just a shame that it's made it's quest exit from the US beer scene.

Here's hoping that it'll make it's return to the US sometime in the future.
