Belhaven Wee Heavy
This was on sale at my local liquor/beer store -- and always an adventurous soul, I decided to check this out for the first time tonight.
While I expected this to be very-much a typical Scotch Ale (i.e. heavy-handed caramelized wortiness to the mouthfeel, blowing away any sort of balance or hoppiness to the flavor profile), I was quite surprised to find this quite nicely drinkable.
Poured this into my 500mL Granville Island pint glass, and didn't have to worry about squeezing the entire beer + head of foam into the glass. Rather, the head of foam was rather sedate, overall.
Malty-peaty-smoky-sweet aroma, that tended to coincide with the flavor profile. Quite enjoyable, in that it wasn't nearly as arduous to drink as I expected. That is to say, the mouthfeel wasn't nearly as sickly sweet/cloying as I expected.
A dandy ale, that I can easily see keeping my fridge stocked with a few samples at all times. There's more to life than simply hops-hops-hops, as a malty/smoky/peaty beers like this easily prove. Recommended.

It may have come from a right old recipe but Wee Heavy fits the bill today as much as it ever has. It is a classic Scottish heavy but has a lightness of flavour and a great reddish colour in the glass. Cracking stuff if we do say so ourselves
