Bluegrass Brewing Co. American Pale Ale

While in Norfolk for a week, I wanted something different for my afterwork beer'y enjoyment. This caught my eye -- and thanks to the very clear "Best Before" dating, was rather fresh -- so I took a chance on a sixer.

Does the fact that I left two bottles behind in the fridge when I checked out Saturday AM give ya hint to the quality of this beer?

Maybe that's not entirely fair or accurate. This didn't suck. But...., there just wasn't anything with this beer worth bringing back to SoCal.

Loads of minty-fresh action going on with the hop profile here (Northern Brewer? Willamette?). But not nearly enough citric hoppage to give this any real character or depth. Kinda muddy and unappealing, really....

This beer did seem to have a bit more going on in the malt dept than the average APA. Hitting above it's weight class, as it were.

An American Pale Ale that probably does well on it's home turf of KY -- perhaps due to it being the freshest drop compared to it's West Coast/East Coast/etc competition. But being the only game in town doesn't help this beer's overall standing once you get out in the real world.

Horrible? No. Just not very good.
