So a guy walks into a beer store, and walks out with this beer all over his boots.
Que?
Yeah, I guess I should elaborate on that some, eh? Well, I checked out the new-ish Keg & Bottle location right next door to Windmill Farms here in San Diego (two kick-ass beer spots side-by-side? Cool). I put my bottles up onto the counter, and the clerk started to ring them all up. I was just reaching for my wallet when the clerk accidentally pushed a bottle of this off the counter, and right onto my steel toe boots! The bottle exploded, with glass and beer everywhere! My boots were covered in hoppy beery goodness. She was very embarrassed, but there was no real harm done. I walked back to the cooler and grabbed another, while another dude swept up the mess. I thought he was nuts to be working around all of that broken glass while wearing open-toe sandals, but oh well. He did remark that the beer smelled good -- I tended to agree as I drove home with hoppy beery goodness all over my boots! :)
Anyway, cracked open this bottle this evening, and the aforementioned hoppy aroma is indeed in full effect. Perhaps not "juicy", but very solid and appealing in the nose.
The aroma is this beer strongest suite; the flavor profile isn't nearly as distinctive. Not bad, not bad at all, just nothing you haven't had hundreds of times previously.
A good beer, that has something of an old school feel to it. Or maybe I'm just projecting that, in light of a label that looks like it's straight from The Great US Microbrewery Boom of the Early 90's?
For $3.99, a decent drop. Steel toe boots optional!
