Butte Creek Organic India Pale Ale
Well now, what do we have here. "Handcrafted in Chico, CA with organically grown hops and barley, brewer's yeast and water". Isn't that just special. Did I have some doubts about this beer? You betcha.
But the first impressions were actually positive. Nice soft, perfumely aroma, coming off a nice firm amber-ish body. Maybe the organic angle isn't just a gimmick, and this beer can pull through and impress with the best.
Very, very soft bite to the hops here. Centennial, perhaps Crystal, maybe Mt Hood or Willamette. Definately not your standard "Cascade up the waa-zoo!" IPA that I expected from an organization that has more ties to Sierra Nevada than just sharing the same zip code.
While I am not 100% convinced that the hops and barley being grown organically makes a bit of difference in the finished product, I am happy to announce that this beer has a lot more going for it than just a quirky marketing angle.
