Ah yes, the ol' yarn about preserving the beer so it can make it for the troops in India. The lucky bastards were living off IPA! But..., er, more recent research has shed a bit more light on this oldie but a goodie -- mostly along the lines that the beer was most likely watered down to "normal" ale strength/bitterness once it was off-loaded in Bombay or wherever.  Read more....

Any time an American craft beer outlet first starts making a lager, I get nervous. Are they going to actually lager (store cold long-term) the beer? Or are they just going rush it through with a few days around 50ºF? And how about the yeast? And the malt? Good quality Czech stuff, or just whatever non-Crystal light-SRM stuff they can get a hold of?
