Coronado Red Devil Imperial Red Ale

Not a new beer, apparently, but just one that I've avoided for reasons unknown up until now. Actually, who am I kidding? I know why I avoided this beer just as much xlperro knows why I avoided this: the fact that it's BIG and RED. It's true that I've been burned far too often in the past, that for a long time I avoided any so-called Red Ales.

But, just like I've renounced my hatred of Germanic Bocks, I really need to think about doing the same for well-made Red Ales. This one from Coronado fits that category.

Well, actually, this isn't all that red. More of what I would call a "Misc. Strong Ale". That's not a bad thing for, but might bum out somebody wanting something looking like Red Nectar Ale.

I'm more more about the flavor than "how red is this Red?". Mighty fine, this one. Hints of chocolate, a far amount of hoppiness, and (most importantly!) not a single hint of sweet cloyingness! Let the beer gods rejoice!

Okay, back to reality, I have a hard time finding much to bitch about re: this beer. It has all it's x's and o's lined up nicely, and doesn't drop the ball, not even in the RedZone. (Did you see what I did there?)

Recommended.
