Dixie Beer
While watching my Niners choke to the Rams today, I did a bit of a double-blind tasting of two dissimilar Pale Lagers: Warsteiner and Dixie Beer (both of which I purchased at Trader Joes, $0.75 each). The results of the game were surprisingly disappointing. And the results of the double-blind tasting were disappointingly surprising.
Basic Lager-like apparence, with some head formation, and some Belgian lace too. Average aroma -- nothing too offensive or worth troubling yourself about. Reasonably clean flavor profile. While obviously made with sub-par ingreidients, this is not that bad. In fact, I can see how this would kill a thirst in the 90-Degree/90%-Humidity of this beer's hometown of "Nawlins". Finishes a little sweet, but again, not truly bad.
This beer may not be the be-all and end-all -- in fact, I would say it's still rather average, at best -- but the fact that it easily beat-out Warsteiner isn't something to easily dismiss, IMO.
Workable, and fine for the price.
