Dominion Oak Barrel Stout

Thanks to Scooter77 for reminding me of this -- he passed a six-pack of this very nice beer to me the last time I was out that way, and I've slowly enjoyed them (as well as passing some to my SoCal buds).

So where to start with this one? Well, to me, there's no getting around the smooth, whiskey-like character -- extremely mature and mellow, but in no way weak (or for the weak-at-heart...!).

A beer that comes across to me as being bigger and bolder than the mere 5.2%ABV would otherwise imply. Nicely full in the mouthfeel, with all sorts of interesting nuances showing up as you progress through this beer start-to-finish. One minute I pick up some interesting old-school hops in the mix, the next the malt seems to take charge. And the roasted character of any well-made Stout is here in full force, too.

A really great beer, that saddens me to know that I won't be able to sample again for quite a while (this was my last bottle). But while my beer cellar may miss this particular beer, I'll always have quite fond memories of it as the years go by.
