Firehouse Hefeweizen

This is one brewery that I've only slowly warmed up to. They're beers aren't especially terrific, mind you, but are pretty solid. I guess I'm just an unintentional sucker for a brewery who has their taps at seemingly every Tom, Dick, and Harry bar and restaurant around town.

Anyway, just like the Firehouse Pale Ale (a rather typical -- albeit well-made -- American Pale Ale), the Firehouse Hefeweizen is a rather typically well-made Hefe. Or, rather, an American Wheat Beer, if you prefer.

Why the quibble over small shit? Only in that this beer has very little in the way of any true Germanic Hefe'ish aspects. Absent is the banana&clove vibe, for example. But at least it's not filtered!

But this does the job it's intended for, me'thinks. A rather crisp and refreshing drop, with enough yeasty esters to make things interesting.

One can only wonder how Firehouse sticks around, with rather safe and routine offerings that any beer geek worth his/her samplin' thimble has had hundreds of times previously. But I can't really slam this beer: it is what it is, and that's still better than many out there....
