Founder's Breakfast Stout

It seems the sun as risen and has since set for this beer -- the ticker hordes and hording tickers were all over this like white on rice for a while, but have since moved on. Is that because the beer wasn't up to the huge hype? Or just the collective OCDs finding other shiny things to attract their attentions to?

Either way, I'm late to the game on this beer, but thanks to Barroomhero, this beer has crossed my path. And you know what? I'm not complaining. :)

On multiple occasions, me and my mates have started a pubcrawl or bus trip to Vegas with an AleSmith Speedway Stout. So the whole notion of an Imperial [Coffee] Stout in the AM hours is not as foreign of a concept to me as it might be for many.

That having been said, my initial reaction to this is that the Speedway Stout beats this out -- but not by much.

This certainly has it's merits. I dig the roasted coffee goodness in this beer, through and through. The aroma, the flavor, the mouthfeel..., this is a coffee beer first, and Imp. Stout secondly.

That having been said, there is the roasted barley and big "300lb gorilla smack to the face" aspects that I like to see from this sort of beer. The usual semi-fruit/fig aspects that you'd expect from an Imperial Russian Stout are either absent, or smothered by the coffee. Not a problem in the least, IMO.

It's hard to call such a big (8.3% ABV) beer "easy drinking", but this did make a rather quick exit from my Corsendonk glass and into my gut in a hurry!

Much thanks to Barroomhero for introducing me this much discussed beer. No beer can live up to it's beer-knurd derived hype, but this one does a good job trying!
