Gold Bohemia Beer

Wow. Can this beer have a more boring name, or what??

Thankfully, this beer -- from the obscure "Pivovar Nymburk" brewery, in the Czech Republic -- is not bad. Rather "been there, done that, got the t-shirt", as far as Czech Pilseners go. But really? Not a bad drinker.

Very by-the-numbers, this one. Pale yellow gold in body, bready aroma, some Saaz for Saaz's sake in the nose. Ditto for the flavor profile. Solid malt bill, semi-bready, that gives a nice baseline for the Saaz to do it's magic.

Easy drinkability, and easy (but not watery) mouthfeel..., that all gives this beer enough street cred to hold it's own against the many other (more well-known) Czech Lagers out there.

I think it's a bit ironic that the cheap'o Czech brand still ends up beating the pants off many other country's Pale Lagers -- including the U.S. of A.

Nothing earth-shattering. But still a better call than most other self-proclaimed Pilseners out there...
