Gorkha Beer

Had a short day on the job here in Yokosuka, so I went back to the hotel, swapped out my steel-toe boots for my busted up sneakers, and wandered about town. Got hungry, and stepped into a sleepy mom&pop joint for a bite to eat and maybe a beer. Not really sure how or why they were selling this Nepalese beer alongside routine Kirin stuff, but what the heck, I'll give it a try.

*Blech* The Gorkha Brewery is a joint Nepalese/Carlsberg operation, with heavy emphasis on the Carlsberg angle apparently. Tasted just like the skunked Carlsberg I had on the ferry boat leaving Phuket City. This beer (in a very pale brown bottle) was in a dark section of the cooler, so I can only guess it was either badly mistreated beforehand somewhere, or it's really intended to come across both bland and skunky.

My grasp of Japanese is extremely pathetic, but I'm very good at reading body language and figuring out contextual clues in Japan. And everything that the reaction from the locals and the owners of the mom&pop eatery said to me that they knew that this beer shite, and I was some crazy round-eye gaijin for having ordered it...!

Oh well, live and learn. I ended up sending the second half of this away, so that I could get a Kirin Dry to go with my Katsu Curry dish, while staring at yet another odd Japanese game show on the TV.
