Grolsch Premium Lager

Ah yes...., the overly nerdy Community College student of Dutch beers (compared to the knuckle-draging high-school dropout known as Heinkein). "But dude, it's got this way-cool swing-top, so you don't even need to twist off the cap...!" Uh-uh.

Mindless rambling and flashbacks aside, this beer really isn't the worst of the European Green Bottle Club, but in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't mean a lot, either. Kinda like a moronic argument on the school-yard playground: "No way! I suck more than you do!" "Uh-uh! I do!" And so on.

How is it that I keep going off track, and onto some really weird school-related trains of thought? Probably due to the fact that this beer was considered to be the Holy Grail of beers while I was in High School: "See? It's in a green bottle, and from Europe, so you know it *has* to be better than our American stuff! And did I mention how cool the swing-top bottle is...?? It's, like, collectible, too!"

As a homebrewer, I respect any brewery that can make lager that doesn't cause supersonic hurling of previous meals (since lager unto itself is difficult to produce in the home/small-brewery environment). But even if you have the most pristine, freshest, least-skunked Grolsch around, it's still a pretty dull beer. Not as boring and stoopid (sic) as it's bigger Dutch brother-in-arms Heinkein, but no where interesting enough to seek out.
