Guinness Extra Stout
Karen's "BYOB"/potluck birthday bash resulted in lots of left-over the beer this morning. Amidst all of the excess bottles of Amstel Light and Redhook ESB, there was a single 12-oz bottle of Guinness Extra Stout. And while I'm not normally a huge "hair of the dog" aficionado -- nor a huge fan of Guinness -- I have to admit that this again went down pretty well.
Pretty-much a night-and-day comparison between getting this from a bottle and from a Nitro-tap/can/bottle -- only cementing my opinion that the nitro may look good, but completely kills the character of the beer.
This beer doesn't have a lot to work with in the first place, let alone before the Nitro strips away the hop profile, for example. But this does have a fairly interesting roasted vibe to the flavor and the mouthfeel. And I have no qualms with giving this a thumbs up with the drinkability, either.
Stellar? Hardly. But for a mass-produced Dry Stout, it's not horrible. Not horrible at all, IMO.
