Kirin Heartland Beer
Rediciously fancy-pants Official Link
A fancy-schmancy green etched 500mL bottle, with an oh-so profound message. This isn't the "evil mega-brewer Kirin Corporation", it's the "kinder, gentler Kirin". Not sure what the "hook" is with this beer. Maybe organic? Or from a pseudo-craft brewery off-shoot of Kirin? Or wanting to go "high-end" by competing against the Green Bottle Brewers from Europe?
But take away all of the fluff, this is just yet another Kirin beer. Better than many under Kirin's aegis, but still nothing special. The more-malt-than-the-average-Japanese-lager is nullified by the way-too-dusty/dry-aftertaste. And the semi-acrid mouthfeel doesn't do this beer any favors, either.
About what I expected, to be honest. I gave this about as much attention as the locals just did re: the monthly typhoon warning alarm (sounds like an air raid siren).
Very similar to Harbin, including the big fancy green bottle packaging. And as equally forgettable. Next....
