Lost Coast Downtown Brown
Along with the Alleycat Amber (that I reviewed last month), this is yet another Lost Coast brew that I see in the coolers all the time, and never even think about picking up. But when I saw it available at the Yard House, I figured "what the heck", and got a pint.
Very glad I did, too. Big chocolate-like notes from the get-go. Perhaps a bit lacking in the aroma, but more than compensated by the truly solid mouthfeel and professional presentation of the malt and hops. Definately a true American Brown Ale (vice the more subtle variations from the U.K., or the sour Browns from Belgium), in that the hops don't hide from the malt avalanche.
In short, this ain't no Newcastle, brother...!
