Michelob Amber Bock

Well, with no other palatable choices in the liquor store for my first Friday night in scenic Pascagoula, MS, it boiled down to picking up a six-pack of this dark lager. I'm sure that I had this before, and don't remember much about it - which fitted in with my most recent taste of this beer. That is to say, very forgettable. My assumption is that this was created to compete against Shiner Bock's near-domination of the Texas beer scene. Well, if it was a boxing match between Shiner and Michelob, the Michelob would lose by a TKO in the 3rd Round. And if this was put head-to-head and toe-to-toe against an authentic European Bock, it would be KO'ed at the opening bell.

Minimal malt - barely enough to even hint of the style. No notable hops, and without the big-ass chewy malt, this just doesn't hold it's own as a Bock. Is it ok as a more generic "dark lager"? I suppose, but in the grand scheme of things, who cares?

Even in the good beer desert that is South Mississippi, this isn't worth checking out. Not horrible; but horribly boring.
