Mikkeller Nelson Sauvin Single Hop IPA

Popped this and poured it -- in it's entirety -- into my well-used Stone IPA stemmed glass. It was rather rambunctious in the head formation department, so much so that I had to pour off some of the head foam into the sink before it made a mess of things.

But really, it was hardly just the over-active head that made a mess of things here. Rather, the beer itself was just a bit of a mess in it's own right. Meaning? I'm not buying off on this somewhat arcane hop's ability to hold a beer together on it's own. Very wine-y and very grape-y..., but I'm not convinced that it is -- on it's own -- enough to tie together a beer into any sort of coherent IPA-ish package.

This seems to be all about the floral, and not much else. Hints and nuances of grapefruit and papaya are well and good, but I'm not convinced that there's enough here to really bind together an IPA the same way that, say, an all-Cascade or all-Centennial beer can.

I found this beer to be quite a bother to enjoy, yet along finish. Just not enough balance IMHO....

I want to like every Mikkeller beer I purchase -- FSM knows they charge enough to warrant some sort of forced likability! But really? I could dump this down the drain and not think twice about it. Yeah, it's that uninteresting.
