Moylan's Tipperary Pale Ale

It's very easy to paint with a very broad brush, and write-off everything coming out of the Moylan's/Marin outfit. The fact that many of their beers do have issues -- and/or the service and food at their respective brewpubs often leave a lot to be desired -- shouldn't blind you to the odd beer or two in their lineup that rises above the rest.

I've dug this particular beer for quite a while -- and was happy to see samples of it finally get to San Diego in good shape. Eldorado Distributing Co. finally expand their operations to adequately cover the Southland?

Regardless, this is exactly how I remember mega-fresh samples up in NorCA. Nutty in both the aroma and the flavor profile, with more of Scottish 40/- Ale than any sort of Left Coast Pale Ale.

Minimal carbonation, that only highlights this beer's rather Anglo-Saxon leanings. Quite drinkable -- my bomber disappeared in short order.

A beer that normally doesn't travel well. If it's hard to get in good shape in SoCal, I can't even imagine how this beer winds up back East.

But if you can get this fresh off the tap or from a bottle lucky enough to survive the distance from Novato CA, it's worth a spin around the block.
