Myanmar Lager Beer

My very first beer from Myanmar (er, Burma). Will it be my last? Read on....

Odd to see this one. Aren't there int'l sanctions against the nasty little military dictatorship's country that's in the upper righthand armpit of the Indian Ocean? I picked this up this 12-oz single from Serv-All in Hillcrest (which has really stepped up it's beer game BTW), for something like $1.80. The mystery of this beer gets even more, er, mysterious.

Boring appearance in the glass, with a head that quickly comes and goes, leaving nothing behind. Ditto for the aroma, except that to say that it leaves even less of an impression behind. "Typical Asian-Swill", this is quickly becoming.

A touch of astringency starts the ball rolling downhill with this one, as it seems to highlight the bland dryness of the flavor profile all-to-well. Some anonymous bitterness here and there was surely a welcome addition, but not enough to save this beer overall.

Maybe a nice little beer to quench a thirst, if you're tired from hiking the beautiful countryside and/or escaping the local military police. But for more typical day-to-day drinking, this doesn't cut it in my book.

Hopefully there are other beers from Myanmar better than this out there. But I doubt it.

P.S. I do have to give a thumbs up to this ad's hot model. I'd be happy to drink a bad beer or three with her!

The Karaweik, featured prominently on Myanmar Beer’s logo, is a bird of legend. It is depicted as an ancient Karaweik Barge fit only for the kings and royal families to use as their main mode of transport to travel across the country. The royal procession on the Ayeyarwardy River would include many richly decorated boats in attendance, making it quite a sight for the people to watch. Myanmar Beer embodies the richness of the Myanmar culture and arts filled with creativity and traditions. The grandeur of Myanmar architecture demonstrated the skills of our craftsmanship and dedication we have placed in the top quality brew of Myanmar Beer. Myanmar Beer has grown from strength to strength winning many awards and accolades which is a testament to our mission to be the number one beer brand in Myanmar par excellence.
