Sebago Hefe-Weizen

Okay, so I stand corrected with this one. The Sebago Hefe is a fairly tasty beer. Well, better bottled than draught, that is....

Like I mentioned previously, this is much more interesting bottled than from the tap. I first had this at the Old Port location, and it was the biggest turkey in my one-day's-worth of Portland pub'ing.

But this (bottled) one? Thumbs up. A very nice, very Germanic take on the style. Banana&clove all up in this one, fer sure. Head retention a little hard to judge -- when you're dealing with a Holiday Inn plastic cup, you gotta assume the head retention is a bit better in a real glass...!

But a nice quencher, with all the makings of a nice Hefe. WTF did I drink off the tap at the Portland Sebago location? Same beer, or no?

Regardless, better than I expected. An example of a dirty draught line messing a beer big time? Or just a beer that does so much better when bottled and left alone for a little while? Tough call, that....

Brewer's Description:

Our Hefeweizen is a golden unfiltered wheat beer. It is Maine's original German-style Hefeweizen. We ferment it with a traditional German yeast strain which produces its unique fruitiness. Malted red wheat gives it a crisp body and dense white head. It is light in the body so it easy to drink at any time. Sebago Hefeweizen pairs well with shellfish, grilled vegetables and salads, as well as being an ideal thirst quencher. It is available March - August.
