Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock

Seeing as how this is the last of my sixer of this, let's go ahead and knock out one of my classically bullshit reviews, eh?  :)

Five years ago, if someone gave this to me at a fest or a party, I would have guessed that it was a standard (albeit very well made) American Pale Ale. Something a bit different about it, true, but a damned good APA.

And if someone would have told me ten years ago that I'd be going ga-ga over a Golden Bock beer, I would have probably called them a liar, and might have even considered giving them a polite punch to the Nether Regions!

Ah, sometimes being wrong is so, so right!

Smarter folks than I have actually been thinking this might be more of a Heller Bock, which is said to often times to be pretty damn hoppy -- by Germanic bier standards, that is. If that is the case, then mark me down as a fan. Hmm, so if Altbier is to Düsseldorf, then Heller Bock is to...?

For those that are keeping track, this was the hoppier of the two batches seen thus far (0005 vice 9365). I would like to do a side-by-side of the two sometime.

But in the meantime, can easily see stocking this as my "go-to" sixer for the duration!

Brewer's Description:

As winter begins its slide toward the sunny days of spring, we bring you Glissade Golden Bock to help you enjoy the ride. Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor, balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate—bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring. alcohol content 6.4% by volume | Lager Yeast | beginning gravity 15.5 Plato | hops German Magnum & German Perle | ending gravity 3.2 Plato | bitterness units 42 | finishing hops German Spalter, Slovenian Aurora & Styrian | malts Two-row Pale, Europils, Munich & Crystal.
