Super Bock

My very first beer from Portugal. Will it be my last? Read on....

I picked this up as 12-oz single from the local Trader Joes, for something like $0.70. In retrospect, I would have felt insulted if I ever ended up paying more than that this for this particular beer.

Boring appearence in the glass, with head that quickly comes and goes, leaving nothing behind. Ditto for the aroma, except that to say that it leaves even less of an impression behind. "Typical Euro-Swill", this is quickly becoming.

A touch of astrigency starts the ball rolling downhill with this one, as it seems to highlight the blandness of the flavor profile all-to-well. Some anonymous bitterness here and there was surely a welcome addition, but not enough to save this beer overall.

Less-than-appealing through and through, this leads me to believe that the overall drinkability of this beer isn't all that hot. In fact, there's little doubt in my mind that this isn't too drinkable, period.

Maybe a nice little beer to quench a thirst, if you're tired from walking the beuatiful streets of Downtown Lisbon. But for more typical day-to-day drinking, this doesn't cut it in my book.

Hopefully there are other beers from Portugal better than this out there....
