Terrapin Rye Pale Ale
A beer I've become quite acquainted with over the last few months -- it's become my standard go-to sixer every time I'm on a business trip to Jacksonville, FL.
For good reason, too. This is a very nice beer. The rye is not shy about imbuing this beer with some honest-to-gosh spiciness -- but, at the same time, does not go hog wild and out of control, either. Just a subtle nuance to an American Pale Ale that seems pretty solid already.
Hop wise, off-the-cuff I would say that this perhaps could be a tad hoppier. But really, when you have something this nice and balanced (classic combo of Fuggles & Goldings, plus Magnum in the back, and Amarillo in the front), all rather modestly quoted at clocking in at 35 IBUs total, why mess up a good thing?
Easy in the finish, and easy to down this by the sixer-ful.
I'm not really sure what a turtle has to do with a brewery in Athens, GA. But I do know that Terrapin's flagship brew is some kinda nice, and that the brewery itself is a valuable contributor to the South East U.S. brewing scene.
