Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier

Now this is one Hefeweizen that I really expected more from, to be honest. I mean, this was nice and refreshing, don't get me worng. But excuse me? Where is the classic Bavarian banana&clove profile? Did I get a defective bottle, or is there something inherently off with this beer? Since I bought this at a very reputable location, I tend to think the later of those two options is in force here.

Nice big foamy pour, that kinda got out of hand -- and out of my 33cL Ayinger glass. Once I was able to rein in the rampant foam, I was so hoping to catch a wiff of some truly authentic Bavarian wheat-beer character. No joy. In fact, while this did have a nice enough (i.e. basic) aroma, never did it tell me that this comes from one of the oldest breweries in the world.

Nice hefeweizen flavor profile, and quite enjoyable mouthfeel and overall drinkability. But for me, the critical piece of the puzzle is missing here. I would take Ayinger's Brau Weiss over this any time.

A good training-wheel beer for introducing folks to wheat beers, but not aromatically exciting enough for old(er) hats like myself.
